Haru is a beautiful young woman with long black hair that is tied into a half pony tail with her ponytail flowing past her nape and shoulders, side bangs that droop past her shoulders to her collarbone and brown eyes. Her attire usually is a mono color schemed camisole.
Like Ryōsuke Kirishima, Haru will put others above her life as demonstrated in the delivery room where she requests Dr. Tsubaki to save her unborn twin boys and she will gladly sacrifice her life to protect her children.
Haru lost her parents when she was two and grew up in the Hidamari Garden Children's Nursing Home, along with Ryōsuke Kirishima. Haru and Akane Fujisaki became friends in high school and Haru eventually went on to marry her childhood friend Ryōsuke.
When Haru was about to go into labor, Akane drove her to the hospital - only for them to be hit by another car on the way. The other car was conveniently being driven by the doctor of a local clinic, who immediately took the two women there. While the doctor and his nurse worked to birth Haru's twin babies, Haru asked that they prevent Akane from taking in both children as it would be an immense burden for her. Haru ultimately died at the clinic after telling the doctor the names she and Ryōsuke had decided for the children - Yūsuke Fujisaki and Sasuke Tsubaki.
Haru and Akane are close friends, which is demonstrated when Haru entrusts Akane to take care of her son.
As described by Akane, Ryōsuke had an unbreakable bond with Haru. She and Ryōsuke had always been together and developed feelings for each other gradually. Even on her deathbed, Ryōsuke was the only person Haru thought of as she realized that she wasn't going to be able to live anymore.
- The name Haru means "wave" (波) (ha) and "gem" (瑠) (ru).
- Haru's surname Kirishima means "paulownia" (桐) (kiri) and "island" (島) (shima).
